Outreach Youth Work
Outreach work is youth work that is not undertaken in centre – based environments. It means reaching out to where young people are, rather than waiting for them to contact us. Much outreach work is done in the form of street work – walking around streets and flat complexes meeting up with young people and getting to know them better.
Within Bradóg Regional Youth Service the specific role of outreach youth work is to build a relation of trust with young people. Based on this relationship Bradóg can inform, informally educate, advise, motivate and challenge young people. Bradóg can help secure basic needs and can build bridges to the community and support services that help meet young people’s basic and developmental needs. The Outreach team are also in contact with young people through referrals made by concerned parties within the community, such as parents, teachers, other young people, neighbours and others.
Bradóg is particularly willing to travel the road with young people who are not having their basic needs met and who face serious obstacles on their path of development. These young people are frequently alienated from the community and support services and may in some cases be in conflict with them. For contact details click here.
