International Activities

International youth exchange gives young people the chance to participate, in planning and organising their own activities, to experience decision making and responsibility and to sample new cultures and values.

A youth exchange is…

  • a developmental instrument through which to work with young people
  • a challenge for young people which can promote personal development, self awareness and self confidence
  • a way of broadening horizons, facilitating the learning of new skills and raising awareness of new possibilities
  • a means of enhancing teamwork that results in a sense of achievement
  • a tool that can promote tolerance and understanding and which challenges prejudices
  • a mechanism that develops relationships within the group, the local community and beyond
  • an instrument to help young people to learn about themselves, their history, culture and country.

Torino Italy, July 2004.
This was an exchange between Italy, Ireland, Bosnia, Germany, Belgium, Finland exploring community television potential for documenting young peoples experiences.

Skien Norway, September 2005
Participants from Italy, Estonia, Norway, Bosnia, Finland and Germany.  This was an Action 1.1 cultural exchange that looked at youth, media and identity.
  As part of this exchange the Bradog group made a 3 minute video based on a quote from the Norwegian writer Henrik Ibsen.  The video came second in the international youth film-making competition - The Cube of Ibsen.

Youth Interculturalism and Media - Antwerp Belgium April 2006

Bradog has strong links with a  youth video organisation in Antwerp called VideoAntz.  During this exchange young Dubliners & young Antwerpians developed and prodcued a series of video pieces that explored intercultural dialogue and racism.

Finland on the Liffey - Kristenastad Finland August 2007

Through Bradog's membership of YEPP (Youth Empowerment Participation Programme) we developed links with a small and beautiful community on the west coast of Finland.  With the help of Irish artists Simeon Smith, Ciaran McNulty and Vijaya Bateson thrity young people from Kristenstad and Bradog conceived and designed carnival costumes, props, narratives and music for the Halloween celebrations in Dublin.

Pookah's Labyrinth - Dublin October 2007

Youth Members from YEPP Kristenstad made a return visit to Dublin to participate in the Halloween celebrations.  'Pookah' is the gaelic word for 'Ghost'.  The Halloween carnival parade was the outcome a large interagency partnership in the area called the Aontas Youth Arts Initiative.  Click below to view:

The EMN Esker Media Workshop - Galway May 2008

This was an exciting opportunity to share an intercultural media experience with young people from ten different countries in the beautiful “west of Ireland”.  Over four fun packed days, participants had the opportunity to learn new skills, be creative, make movies, make new friends and find out about the Empower Media Network and its activities.  This workshop was organised as a pre-event to the YEPP Conference. Superlambanas - Liverpool England July 2008

 Bradog youth members travelled to Liverpool which was hosing the European City of Culture in 2008.   They collaborated with youth members of Liverpools Culture company and KECS Creative Community Arts Centre to design a twined city themed Lambanana titled - "Twinnylambanana".

This was an EMN 'track Two' initiative between older young people from Bradog, Belgium, Sweden, Norway and Italy.  It focused on creating youth media specifically for broadcast on local tv channels.

Youth & Web TV - Torino September 2008

This was an EMN project led by the local EMN site in Torino.  The exchange involved all the EMN partners and some new partners from Portugal.  The exchange focused on the relationship between young peoples experience and the increasing popularity of social networking sites such as bebo and facebook.
